Chocolate Covered Oreo Cookies

I'm not sure if there is any Christmas treat that is easier to make than this one!  I absolutely have to make these every year because they take so little time, look so festive, and taste great!  Plus they only take 4 ingredients.  It doesn't get much easier than that.

Follow along and I'll show you how to make these fantastic, tasty cookies:

Chocolate Covered Oreo Cookies
25-30 Oreo cookies (or other brand of sandwich cookies)
12 ounces milk chocolate chips
1 tablespoon shortening
4 peppermint candy canes (the regular sized ones)

To crush the candy canes, place them in a plastic zip top bag and use a meat mallet, hammer, or heavy skillet to crush them.  Then pour into a small bowl.
In a medium bowl add the chocolate chips and shortening.  Microwave for 1 minute, stir and microwave for additional 30 second intervals, stirring after each, until chocolate is melted and smooth.
Place a sandwich cookie in the chocolate, flip with a fork to cover both sides and use two forks to remove from the chocolate.
Place cookie on waxed paper and top with a pinch of crushed peppermint candies.
Continue until all cookies are covered and topped.  Allow to harden at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
 Enjoy!
 Happy Holidays!
